1/1/2020 0 Comments Happy New Life! “Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it.” — Ernest Holmes. We begin the year anew. Many of us begin the new year with resolutions, promises to ourselves and others that we will turn over a new leaf. This custom reminds me that we actually have the power to change our lives and live a new life. We can choose to live differently at any given moment and leave our old way of thinking and speaking and knowing behind. What gives us this power? In fact, the power to change our lives and live a new life comes from bringing the light of awareness to the way we are thinking, the way we are living, and the results. If you want to know where to change your thinking and your way of life, look at the circumstances in your life. Are they negative or positive? Now, this does not mean that we are to blame for all of the misfortunes that have befallen us or that everything in our lives is the one-to-one correspondence to a thought we have had; however, it does mean that when we take stock of those aspects of our lives in which we do have influence, we can look to see what it is we are doing that is contributing to conditions we say we do not want. Are we caring for ourselves with gentle compassion, or are we harsh with ourselves, saying, "Oh, you never do anything right; you have no self control." Are we loving to others? Do we nurture our relationships with love and respect, or do we find ourselves saying hurtful things in fits of passion to those whom we say we love best? Are we indulging in negative thinking, rumination, blaming ourselves and others, and unforgivingness? You see, the only thing we ever have complete control over is the very thought we are choosing to think in this moment. I am not talking about trying to control 'automatic thoughts' that come to us, especially when we are feeling panicked or depressed. What I am talking about is the thoughts we choose to indulge. We can have a thought without buying into it; we can choose to think positive thoughts about ourselves and nurture our ability to do so. When was the last time you looked yourself in the mirror and said, "I love you. I really love you. Thank you for being alive with me." Do you think that sounds silly? Maybe you think it sounds crazy. But the truth of the matter is that most of us have no problem criticizing our looks or thinking poorly of ourselves when we look in the mirror, and that is just as arbitrary, just as based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or logic. The truth is that in order to live a new life, you and I need to be willing to think differently. We need to be willing to act differently. We need to be willing to think and act out of accordance with the values we hold dear. If you want a more loving life, you must think loving thoughts. If you want a prosperous life, you must begin believing that you deserve it and that everyone deserves this. If you want a joyous life, you must think joyous thoughts. It may not be easy, but it really is that simple. I know you can do it. -Donny- Service Schedule & Talk Themes5 Jan 2020 (First Sunday) Talk: In The Beginning, God (Chapter 1 of the Science of Mind textbook) Speaker: Donny Anderson Practitioner: Meg Chaffin 12 Jan 2020 (Second Sunday) Talk: The Power of Thought (Chapter of the Science of Mind textbook) Speaker: Pat Richmond Practitioner: Donny Anderson January 2020 Board Meeting 19 Jan 2020 (Third Sunday) Theme: Principles of Successful Living (Chapter of the Science of Mind textbook) Speaker: Meg Chaffin Practitioner: Donny Anderson 26 Jan 2020 (Fourth Sunday) Theme: What the Mystics Have Taught (Chapter of the Science of Mind textbook) Speaker: Donny Anderson Practitioner: Pat Richmond Winter Class Series: Discovery Class (A Three Class Series)Join us for this primer on our teaching and New Thought philosophy in general.
